IPG Photonics seeks a Power Supply Engineer for the design and development of laser power supplies and systems. Responsible from initial requirements development through design, verification, regulatory compliance and production.

  • Duties: Develops power supply systems and modules including preliminary analysis and evaluation, topology selection and comparison, mathematical calculation, computer simulation, prototyping and debugging, schematics and layout, testing and function validation, magnetic design and prototyping, EMI filters, protection and monitoring circuits, component selection, and taking products through regulatory certification.
  • Participates in electrical hardware requirements analysis, reliability studies, and design verification testing.
  • Performs tests, troubleshooting, diagnoses, and root cause analysis of subassembly and systems level problems down to the component level.
  • Provides overall project planning for activities surrounding product development and manufacturing release including schedules, generating test and qualification plans, and updating specifications.
  • Generates full documentation package for all completed designs. Develops process sheets, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Provides technical support to marketing, manufacturing, quality, customers, and supply management functions and departments.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in Power Supply and Power System Design. Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of high frequency switching power supply topologies, control architectures, high frequency magnetic design, power conversion circuit design and analysis, circuit simulation, layout, feedback control theory, EMC and safety agency compliance, and logic/interface circuit design.
  • Experience in conducting experimental tests and evaluation including electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electromagnetic interference (EMI), highly accelerated life tests (HALT), as well as various other electrical and environmental tests.
  • Proficient in using design tools such as Cadence, LTSpice, or Orcad.
  • Excellent communication skills

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22C.F.R. *120.15 are required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee. License exception Technology and software under restriction (TSR) defined in 15 CFR 740.6 may permit person from Country Group B.
