Precise Systems is seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer to support the Vertical Launch System (VLS) Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Engineering Branch at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD). The position will consist of serving as a member of the Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Team and providing test equipment mechanical design and development support for the MK41 and MK57 Vertical Launching System (VLS) In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) Programs. Test equipment efforts include the mechanical aspects of the design, building, testing, delivery, maintenance, documentation, and training.

Duties:

  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the mechanical design aspects of new ATE systems and assorted other VLS test equipment.
  • The candidate will use SolidWorks and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques to design, analyze, and simulate mechanical components used in VLS ATE systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing engineering support for: acceptance; installation and checkout; troubleshooting and repair of prototype and production test systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing engineering support to conduct test system indoctrination, maintenance, and technician and operator training.
  • The candidate will provide appropriate mechanical drawings/diagrams and write specifications to clarify design details of prototype/experimental ATE units.
  • The candidate will supervise technicians during the fabrication and assembly of prototype and production mechanical components.
  • The candidate will be responsible for working with the technicians to identify solutions to technical design problems that arise during design, fabrication, and checkout of ATE systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising technicians and technical writers during the creation of the technical data package (manuals, procedures, drawings, etc.) of the candidate's new mechanical designs.
  • The candidate will be responsible to ensure that all design documentation is complete and error free.
  • The candidate will inspect existing designs for quality, common design practices, optimization, improvement, and potential cost reductions. The candidate will report findings and provide recommendations to the appropriate entities.
  • The candidate will redline technical data packages (manuals, procedures, drawings, etc.) to reflect changes and errors in design or implementation.

Required Experience:

  • 2-5 years hands-on experience in mechanical hardware design and analysis.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and techniques.
  • In depth knowledge SolidWorks.
  • In depth understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Excellent mechanical debugging skills are required.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical aspects of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design is a plus.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) is required.

Required Education:

  • BSME or equivalent engineering degree required.
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering will be considered.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift at least 25lbs.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Valid driver's license for possible CONUS travel.
  • Current U.S. passport for possible OCONUS travel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently.
  • High degree of self-motivation.
  • Self-starter willing to work in a team environment.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
