The Respiratory Therapist working in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program & PFT Lab will be responsible for the assessment and monitoring of patients in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program and PFT Lab. The therapist will be working with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized exercise programs for patient's enrolled in Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Must perform PFTs to meet ATS standards.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Evaluation and assessment of potential rehabilitation candidates which includes a Six-minute walk test and Respiratory assessment to determine the patient's functional capacity and ability to participate in the program. Performs ABGs with I-stat, PFT maneuvers, Six-minute walk tests and FENO tests.
  • 2. Based on the evaluation and assessment effectively determines patient's functional capacity for exercise.
  • 3. Participates with interdisciplinary team to develop a graduated exercise program based on patient's functional capacity and goals.
  • 4. Monitors the patient's Blood Pressure pre and post exercise. Monitors Heart Rate and Oxygen Saturation's pre, mid and post exercise and makes appropriate adjustments to the patient's exercise regime within program guidelines.
  • 5. Maintains patient records, documents and charges appropriately.
  • 6. Communicates with patients, physicians and others regarding patients' progress.
  • 7. Makes appropriate recommendations for oxygen use, modes of portable oxygen delivery to better suit patient's needs and goals when appropriate. Communicates with the patient's physician regarding any change in patient's oxygen status as appropriate.
  • 8. Provides patient education one on one and formally participates / provides in-servicing during Phase II education series.
  • 9. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
  • 10. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


Graduate of an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program


EXPERIENCE


Minimum of 2 years Pulmonary Rehabilitation & PFT experience preferred.


LICENSURE


Current CT license is required. ACLS certification within a year of entering position for PR. CPFT required & RPFT preferred for the PFT Lab.
