Job Description

Summary:

Reports to the Director Specialty Pharmacy Services. Responsible for the entire scope of services provided by Lifespan Home Infusion Services (LHIS) including the home infusion treatment center Lifespan Home Infusion Pharmacy and home infusion nursing services. Serves as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge for the Lifespan Home Infusion Pharmacy and Administrator for the home infusion treatment center and is personally accountable to the Rhode Island (RI) Department of Health (DoH) and federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the entire scope of activities intrinsic to these designations. Ensures compliance with state and federal rules and regulations and statutory provisions applicable to the health and safety of patients served. Develops and maintains an effective team to ensure that Lifespan Home Infusion Services including medication handling preparation compounding dispensing administration and documentation are provided in accordance with established policies and procedures applicable laws rules and regulations and applicable accreditation requirements. Develops and maintains policies and procedures related to home infusion services. Ensures appropriate staffing scheduling and budgetary adherence for areas of responsibility. Plans organizes and directs Lifespan Home Infusion Services-related projects. Monitors installation maintenance and enhancements to home infusion services related systems and technologies to ensure precise and optimal performance. Monitors Lifespan Home Infusion Services through an on-going written quality improvement program and plan.

Responsibilities:

Pursuant to Pharmacist-in-Charge and Registrant designations ensures the Lifespan Home Infusion Pharmacy site meets requirements set forth by federal and state law RI Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations and other applicable state regulations.

Oversees development and implementation of coordinated customer-focused home infusion services. Ensures delivery of safe effective and compassionate care to LHIS patients. Ensures care is provided to LHIS patients with consideration of the aging process and human developmental stages (neonate child adolescent adult geriatric).

Collaborates and communicates effectively with internal teams external partners and stakeholders. Facilitates interdisciplinary meetings and collaboration with physicians and other healthcare providers to enhance coordination of care and optimize patient outcomes.

Provides operational and clinical oversight and guidance to LHIS staff and ensures that staff scheduling is adequate to meet patient/customer needs. Serves as liaison between organization leadership and staff.

Ensures the highest standards of patient/customer services are consistently executed and addresses and resolves patient concerns or issues satisfactorily and in a timely manner.

Develops and implements policies and procedures to maintain or enhance efficiency and quality of services. Ensures staff compliance with policies procedures and accreditation standards as applicable.

Oversees the recruitment on-boarding/training and supervision of appropriate professional and ancillary staff. Ensures that the duties and responsibilities of said staff are consistent with their training experience and as applicable licensure.

Fosters a positive work environment and a collaborative work group. Serves as a coach and mentor for staff by establishing clear and obtainable goals while providing productive feedback. Provides or facilitates ongoing professional development opportunities for staff.

Stays informed about industry trends advancements and best practices in home infusion therapy recommends enhancements to services when warranted. Oversees installation maintenance and enhancements of LHIS related systems and technologies. Ensures information systems and technology processes utilized are precise perform optimally and support established clinical standards of care.

Oversees implements and monitors an ongoing written quality improvement program and plan including but not limited to program objectives methodology for monitoring and evaluating quality of patient care problem resolution and determination of effectiveness of action taken. Ensures that quality improvement activities are documented and encourages active staff participation in the quality improvement program.

Develops and manages the development of annual budgets for LHIS programs. Monitors ongoing financial performance of LHIS programs. Collaborates with billing and reimbursement teams to ensure accurate and timely billing of services.

Serves as preceptor for pharmacy residents and students.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Master*s degree (e.g. MBA MS MPH) and/or ASHP accredited PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of seven years progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment.

Knowledge of area/specialty specific technology including but not limited to pharmacy information systems automated dispensing technology software equipment and automation. Experience with MS Word Excel Outlook and web browsers.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal to interact appropriately with patients families colleagues and others.

Effective organizational and presentation skills.

SUPERVISION:

Direct supervision of up to 10 FTEs supervisory personnel.

Indirect supervision of up to 60 FTEs professional and support personnel.
