General Summary:

The Senior Director Publications is responsible for contributing to the co-creation and strategic development of medical and scientific publications included in a global disease publication plan. This role will provide leadership and expertise in publications creation and execution.

This position has a hybrid schedule which allows for 2 days per week working remotely and 3 days per week in our Boston Fan Pier office. (Relocation assistance is available).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific input during strategic discussions.
  • Lead and drive the development of medical and scientific publications, including manuscripts, abstracts, and posters and oral presentations.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of scientific writers, guiding their professional development, and ensuring high-quality output.
  • Oversight and direct contributions to the crafting and development of scientific content for various publication types, ensuring all content is evidence-based, well-structured, and tailored to the target audience.
  • Participate in budget forecasting and long-range planning for strategic growth within the department.
  • Ensures compliance with Vertex publication policy and external publication guidelines.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Substantial experience in crafting and developing peer-reviewed publications is required including direct development of manuscripts, abstracts and other congress materials.
  • Knowledge of industry guidelines pertaining to data dissemination (e.g., CONSORT, ICMJE, GPPs) and interactions with health care providers (e.g., PhRMA).
  • Ability to collaborate with external Key Opinion Leaders on data dissemination strategies in a credible, responsive, and scientific manner.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific and clinical data to key stakeholders.
  • Creative problem-solver with strong business acumen and skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent project and team management skills, ensuring that deliverables are on time and within budget.
  • Ability to set priorities, deal with ambiguity and ability to be independent, multi-tasked and results-oriented with a hands-on attitude in a fast-paced and energetic environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple internal functions and external stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment composed of cross-functional, dynamic teams.
  • Strong computer and database skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products and Datavision

Education and Experience:

  • PhD is required
  • Typically requires 12 years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
