Under the general direction of the Technical Director of the Vascular Laboratory, the Senior Vascular Technologist (SVT) will serve as a clinical expert and role model for all other technologists in the vascular lab. The SVT will facilitate all medical and nursing staff who are seeking urgent care studies in the Vascular Diagnostic Lab. It is the responsibility of the SVT, among many others, to initiate patient diagnostic testing by consulting with medical and nursing staff via telephone and to evaluate urgent needs for studies that are requested on a regular basis. The SVT will play a major role in the coordinating and management of research trials that exist in the lab.

What you will do:

  • Assists lab leadership with maintaining operational lab policies and procedures by participating in the monitoring and guidance of lab personnel.
  • Has attained the level of technologist expert and transfers this knowledge onto subordinates and other lab personnel as necessary.
  • Assists in the training of residents and fellows
  • Maintains optimum quality assurance in all aspects of patient care testing.
  • Operate ultrasonic equipment and performs diagnostic procedures such as carotid (extracranial), peripheral venous, abdominal visceral, transcranial (intracranial) or peripheral arterial ultrasounds.
  • Obtains brief oral patient history, physical examination, reasons for the testing to be performed, and determines the appropriate testing to be performed.
  • Performs portable testing and brings portable ultrasound unit/physiologic to in-patient floors.
  • Records patient test data, compiles and assembles data, writes preliminary reports and provides this information to the physician / EPIC/Visage, and Powerscribe in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains and shares clinical knowledge and skills using current vascular technology and health-care practices as well as continuing educational programs and appropriate learning experiences.

Qualifications

What you will need:

  • Must be certified by the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) as an RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) or an RVS (Registered Vascular Technologist)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related diagnostic ultrasound experience
  • Possess AHA BLS certification
