Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Interventional Radiology duties: Utilizes modalities such as MRIs, CTs, ultrasounds, etc., to provide images with minimal invasion. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. A senior level role requiring broad knowledge of operational procedures and tools obtained through extensive work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under limited supervision for routine situations, problems typically are not routine and require analysis to understand, provides assistance and/or may lead and train entry level employees and may lead daily operation activities.

Job Overview

This position performs interventional radiologic procedures in according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Trained and experienced in the care of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, pacemaker, ICD implantation, and other vascular and neuro-interventional procedures. Primary and non-emergent angioplasty and electrophysiology studies. Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associate's degree in Radiologic Science.

2. Radiologic Technologist License.

3. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).

4. Vascular Intervention (VI) certification.

5. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

6. Three (3) years of experience in an Interventional lab.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Science.

2. Three (3) years of experience in an Interventional lab and two (2) neuro and Vascular experience.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Determines correct exposure factors and safe radiation practices.

2. Operates all radiographic fluoroscopic and medical equipment in designated areas including rapid film changers, portable image intensifier and automatic contrast injector.

3. Positions all patients for exams, sets up sterile tray, preps patient and monitors contrast media when necessary.

4. Assists radiologist with operation of room and ancillary equipment, pulling of supplies required for procedure, and scrubbing in for procedure assistance when necessary.

5. Coordinates with department and hospital personnel using proper communication.

6. Completes patient records on all cases and records billing information, including supplies when necessary.

7. Greets patients, explains examination to be performed, checks if patient has allergies and takes blood pressure if needed.

8. Responsible for overall condition of room to which assigned such as cleanliness, supplies, performance and safety of equipment.

9. Performs duty stocking of supplies and inventory as required.

10. Assists in the development of new techniques and procedures including research and assists in the training and orientation of fellows, residents, technologists and students.

11. Participates in special projects assigned by Physicians, Chief Technologist, or IR Coordinator.

Physical Requirements:

1. Frequent standing, occasional sitting & walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs.

2. Pushing, pulling, and moving stretchers and imaging machines.

3. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate transducers, imaging equipment and computer keyboard.

4. Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment and hospital alarms.

5. Close contact with patients having contagious diseases.

6. Exposure to patients injected with radioisotopes, necessitating wearing a lead apron during exams.

7. Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients' families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.

Skills & Abilities:

1. An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is also required so the technologist can evaluate laboratory data, past medical history and pertinent symptoms to tailor the radiologic examination to each patient individually in a safe, accurate and timely manner.

2. Ability to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of a wide variety of Interventional Radiology procedures and equipment.

3. Ability to communicate with patients and all personnel involved in procedures and operation of department in order to effectively coordinate and expedite a successful examination.

4. Ability to concentrate for long periods of time under various conditions while acquiring diagnostic information.

5. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

6. Ability to work independently to perform exams and will seek out assistance from others and supervisor as necessary.

7. Displays good judgment and works through a problem with creativity and remains focused and professional.

8. Responds to change and/or stats in work scheduling in a calm and appropriate manner.

9. Demonstrates cooperation with co-workers and management to ensure an atmosphere that is conductive to high quality patient's care.

10. Attention to detail is required for ensuring patient education, safety, comfort as well as discussing clinical situations with physicians.

11. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

12. Knowledge pertaining to image quality, radiation safety, radiologic procedures.
