GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Physics, incumbent will provide full time clinical medical physics coverage split between the MGH Department of Radiation Oncology at Emerson and Newton-Wellesley Hospitals. The position will perform the range of medical physics duties including machine and patient-specific QA, commissioning and validation testing, and treatment planning consultation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Physics, incumbent will provide full time clinical medical physics coverage split between the MGH Department of Radiation Oncology at Emerson and Newton-Wellesley Hospitals. The position will perform the range of medical physics duties including machine and patient-specific QA, commissioning and validation testing, and treatment planning consultation.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The position requires an understanding of radiation physics, anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, and radiation safety. The person should have good basic computer skills as well as those applicable to the position. Knowledgeable in health care informatics-including the resources, devices and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data. Tools include computers as well as clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information and communication systems. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with patients, family members, and the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities. The person must be able to work independently and in collaboration with other professionals.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be expected to work non-standard hours to support patient treatments; will be required to work in a radiation environment which is protected and monitored according to federal and state regulations.

Qualifications

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

Candidates must have a graduate degree in Physics or related fields, with board certification (or eligibility) for therapeutic medical physics from the American Board of Radiology (or equivalent) required.

EDUCATION:

MS or PhD degree in physics, medical physics, or in a related field is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years of clinical experience is required.
