The Affordable Housing Specialist is responsible for providing high-level support to the Affordable Housing and Community Development Finance practices and working closely with the Strategic Policy Advisor and practice groups to manage the overall process of regulatory submissions to governmental agencies and coordinate the necessary documents to facilitate closing transactions. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

Location: Los Angeles, CA; New York City, NY; Washington, DC

  • Assist clients in assessing the regulatory regime of various properties and advise as to approvals necessary to acquire properties and process rent increases; this includes reviewing regulatory and other project documents.
  • Work with clients and the Affordable Housing and Community Development Finance teams to prepare submissions to government agencies.
  • Produce relevant documents to accompany regulatory submissions, including cover memorandum and draft regulatory documents.
  • Interact with clients and governmental agencies to oversee submissions, keep them moving forward and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Attend meetings and participate in conference calls.
  • Manage signature process for necessary regulatory approvals and ensure delivery of documents to attorneys closing transactions.
  • Remain up to date on important Affordable Housing and Community Development Finance topics/issues as programs evolve and new programs roll out; seek relevant training and attend industry events.
  • Establishes clear and effective lines of communication to keep all stakeholders informed of progress, developments, and issues.
  • Work closely with support staff to ensure seamless service to internal and external clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in a role with exposure to federal affordable housing.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred. Work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong research and writing/editing capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Works well within a team and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess sound business judgment.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to manage a number of projects concurrently.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work "hands-on" as required.
  • Ability to be flexible regarding work responsibilities and processes, and to perform well under deadlines and other stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Provide prompt high-quality service to clients and attorneys.
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Excel and Power Point).

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Washington, DC: $76,262 to $110,654
  • Los Angeles, CA: $76,262 to $110,654
  • New York, NY: $79,439 to $115,264

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
