Job Summary:

The Skills Trainer provides individualized home support for an individual with developmental disabilities that requires constant indoor and outdoor care. The Skills Trainer is responsible for cognitive, physical and social skill development based on stated objectives and goals.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Implements program activities which will foster the individual's growth, address treatment plan goals, and help them use developed skills.
  • Teaches daily living skills such as safety rules, travel training, banking, cooking, shopping, budgeting, hygiene, and care of personal space and belongings.
  • Provides supportive counseling to the individual around daily, personal, and social issues.
  • Maintains programmatic documentation in accordance with Bay Cove standards.
  • Maintains progress notes on individual.
  • Submits weekly goal tracking notes on the individual's progress
  • works closely with the clinicians and Family Support Navigator to ensure the Behavior Support Plan is implemented in care.

Job Requirements

  • Understanding of the physical, social, emotional and educational needs of adults and children with disabilities.
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to work effectively with adults and children with developmental disabilities in a manner that supports their stability, empowerment and growth.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other providers and neighbors.
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality
