Description

Needham Public Health in coordination with the Charles River Public Health District seeks a highly qualified individual for the full-time, grant-funded position of Regional Public Health Nurse. Under the supervision of the Assistant Shared Services & Training Hub Manager/Lead Trainer, the Regional Public Health Nurse will serve the Charles River Public Health District, comprised of four towns – Needham, Dover, Medfield, and Sherborn – with the potential to expand to others through collaborative work with the North Central Metro West Training Hub. They will provide shared services and perform a variety of nursing, policy, and health education functions, creating community training based on individualized needs within each town. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about building and sustaining partnerships in pursuit of thorough community outreach on public health topics and functions.

Position: Full-time (37.5 hours per week – term position through 6/30/2027, and possibly longer contingent upon funding)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies vulnerable populations and create training, educational, and informational programs based on current community needs, adapting for a variety of audiences as needed.
  • Works in collaboration with community partners and the Assistant Shared Service Manager/Lead Trainer to spearhead the development of training and public health nursing functions.
  • Supports community/population health needs assessments and data collection.
  • Provides information and trainings to community groups and write articles for newspapers and community publications across a broad range of health topics including general wellness, safety from mosquito and tick-borne illnesses, and mental health promotion.
  • Perform diversified duties to render professional nursing services and health education relating to the public health.
  • Helps deliver health screening programs, wellness clinics, and influenza vaccination clinics.
  • Prepare reports, maintain confidential records, and research public health and medical studies as well as evidence-based practices to inform the development of policies.
  • Traveling independently across these four communities is required. 
  • This position requires flexibility and may require some weekend work.  

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing is desired, although a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as public health, education, or social work will be considered when combined with licensure as a Registered Nurse and nursing work experience.
  • Four or more years of work experience in nursing or public health is required, and ideally experience in both fields. Part-time and volunteer experience may be considered to fulfill a portion of the work requirements.
  • Active and valid Massachusetts licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current and valid certification in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Possession of a valid state-issued driver’s license with the ability to travel independently among each community.
  • Knowledge of Board of Health, Massachusetts General Laws, and standard nursing procedures including safety practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to build and sustain community relationships and partnerships and develop individualized programs based on unique community needs.
  • Skill in community engagement and public speaking.
 
Preferred but not Required Qualifications:
  • Nursing experience in a community health setting, ambulatory care setting, or with unique populations is considered a plus.
  • A background in policy and/or community education attained through either significant work experience or through the achievement of a graduate degree in public health, education, or a related field is highly desired.
